1982 Alan Pape Cutty Hunk 38 Cutter | Dondang Sayang
Designed by Alan Pape in the 1960s, the Cutty Hunk 38 Cutter is a classic 38ft heavy-displacement wooden sailing yacht, and Dondang Sayang is a beautiful example.
Built in 1982 in Terengganu, Malaysia, by traditional craftsmen, the Langkawi-flagged yacht has been meticulously maintained with numerous upgrades and improvements made by her long-time owner.
With her Chengal-hardwood hull, new teak deck and varnished interior, Dondang Sayang is a local Phuket icon, been raced by the Malaysian Navy and also won the Phuket Kings Cup in the Classic Class title three times in a row.
The yacht is flush-decked, but her deep hull allows for full headroom down below. The doghouse covers a raised area containing the large galley and navigation area, as well as a quarter berth for the navigator, largely separated from the main living quarters. These are at a lower level and include five berths, a large head and a huge amount of stowage.
The long keel and cutter ketch rig do not make for sparkling upwind performance, but she is a powerful reaching boat that is well-suited to ocean passagemaking.
Dondang Sayang demands inspection and you can find out more, including her full inventory.
