Mark Elkington
For Mark, the secret to a fulfilling career has always been pursuing his passion. Inspired by his early days sailing dinghies in Western Australia, he has since charted a successful course in the marine industry.
Mark began his journey with studies at Fremantle Maritime College, quickly advancing to purchase his first cruising boat at just 20 years old, and in 1987 was appointed Safety Officer for the America’s Cup. He later moved to Hamilton Island where he was a founding director of Sunsail Yacht Charters in Australia and the inaugural President of the Hamilton Island Cruising Yacht Club.
Mark played a pivotal role in establishing Sunsail’s Hamilton Island base and its fleets, spearheading the importation of Fountaine Pajot Catamarans into Australia and introducing the first Lagoon Catamarans to the region. His expertise extended to the interior redesign of the Perry 43 and the regional growth of Catana Catamarans.
In 2008, Mark founded Multihull Solutions, which quickly established itself as the leading multihull sales company in the Asia Pacific region. Leveraging his technical expertise and industry acumen, he played a driving role in the conception and 2019 launch of ILIAD Catamarans, a brand that has rapidly gained recognition as a rising powerhouse in the global power catamaran market.
Recognising a growing demand from monohull manufacturers for representation in the Asia Pacific region, Mark expanded his vision further by founding The Yacht Sales Co. In 2014, this venture integrated the operations of Multihull Solutions, creating a unified entity dedicated to serving a broader range of clients across the yachting spectrum.
In addition to his business achievements, Mark contributes to the marine industry through his roles on the boards of several international associations and advisory bodies.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Mark’s passion for adventure and community is evident. He sea kayaked over 2,500 kilometres to raise funds for childhood leukaemia and has sailed more than 10,000 nautical miles in offshore races, including the iconic Sydney to Hobart.

On 9th July I will be departing for France to finally take possession of my new boat. I would like to take this opportunity to say how much I have appreciated all your efforts, advice and assistance, which you have given me during the past few months with regard to the purchase of the boat. I have come a long way since sailing along the Mediterranean coastline on Geoff’s boat last August to actually owning such a beautiful boat. I consider this to be not only a personal achievement on my part, but also a realisation of a dream come true.

Last year I bought a boat! A catamaran in fact, and I didn’t really intend to! I started making phone calls about boats and there was some interesting industry interaction – some of the dealers were helpful and some just couldn’t care unless I was buying today!
More phone calls, more dreaming in Boat Trader and eventually a trip to QLD to view a couple of boats. This put us in touch with Mark Elkington of The Yacht Sales Co., and I’ve gotta say I was soon getting impressed with the offers of service, airport pickups, accommodation booking and so on. Still no intention to hand over the cash NOW! However, Elana fell in love with a Lavezzi 40 and so did I.
Compared to the service we had received from other catamaran companies, we knew we were in the right place. We felt welcome, unpressured and informed with the guys (and girls) from The Yacht Sales Co. We were so unpressured that – bugger it – we made our own decision at that point.
In at the deep end, let’s make an offer, and we did. The usual to-ing and fro-ing all made incredibly easy by Mark’s professionalism, and all of a sudden we owned a big cat! But the best was yet to come.In the delivery process I got involved with all the other crew – they made us feel so welcome, even when I knew we were being pains.
EVERY request I had was made to sound so easy to sort out. I had never, ever, ever received service of that quality in my 53 years on this planet. NOTHING was too much trouble, this was incredible fun getting the boat ready for a 3,500k sail home. Only made fun because of the professionalism and incredible will to help from the The Yacht Sales Co. crew.
It could easily have been very far from fun without these guys on our side. If you are in the market for a catamaran, buy whatever you like, but if you don’t at least give the The Yacht Sales Co., crew a go you may be getting a very second rate experience.
We have just sold our Astrea 42 in Greece and are very happy with the process and the results. For us, this is the 4th purchase or sale of a catamaran through your company – in Australia and Europe – over nearly 10 years. We obviously have been very happy to continue the relationship!!
