Launching 1 August 2025, this epic 520nm race takes you from the iconic skyline of Surfers Paradise, past K’gari and through the spellbinding islands of the Great Barrier Reef, finishing in Mackay just in time for the vibrant Festival of Arts and the northern race circuit, including Airlie Beach Race Week, Hamilton Island Race Week, and Magnetic Island Race Week.

Open to monohulls and multihulls, this is a navigator’s dream – no marks, just pure tactical racing and downwind surfing in warm waters. With deep berthing, world-class marina facilities at Mackay, and a buzzing atmosphere at both ends of the course, this race is a natural addition to your northern campaign.

Highlights from the inaugural event included a “Race within the Race” between city dignitaries, helicopter flyovers, and a thrilling spinnaker start straight off Cavill Avenue. And in 2025, the competition is heating up—Grant Wharrington’s Wild Thing 100 returns with a taller mast and bigger sails, ready to defend his Line Honours title.
