1994 Dean 36 | Loose Cannons

Loose Cannons is a fantastic, budget-friendly, cutter-rigged cruising catamaran, built for bluewater adventures. Like many Dean 365s, she has essentially circumnavigated the globe, making her an ideal choice for a family or couple seeking the ultimate cruising experience.

Offering ample living space, exceptional stability and comfortable sailing, she’s easy to handle even solo, thanks to her well-positioned mast, cockpit winches and solid sail setup. Whether you’re embarking on a long passage or enjoying coastal exploration, Loose Cannons is ideal.

Inside a spacious, airy saloon with panoramic windows ensures that no matter where you are, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views. With three comfortable cabins, two heads, and plenty of storage throughout, Loose Cannons is designed for extended cruising.

The galley is fully equipped with quality cooking gear, ample workspace, and extensive storage, making meal preparation on the go a pleasure. The convertible dining table seats six comfortably and transforms into a queen-sized bed, ideal for additional guests or simply relaxing or watching TV.

The fully enclosed cockpit ensures dry and protected sailing even in challenging weather conditions. The spacious aft deck is perfect for barbecues, fishing, or as a dive platform. The large, unobstructed foredeck, complete with a sunshade awning, offers a relaxing space to unwind and enjoy the view while at anchor.

Although built in 1994, Loose Cannons was launched in 1999, with the first owner completing the build. She’s had only two careful and meticulous owners throughout her life. After a few years cruising around Cape Town and participating in the iconic Cape to Rio race, her first owners lived aboard in the Caribbean for three years before emigrating to the UK.

The current owner, a Superyacht Captain, purchased Loose Cannons in 2004 and meticulously maintained and upgraded her, living aboard while cruising the Caribbean for 2.5 years, before sailing across the Pacific to Sydney, then onward to Phuket, followed by 11 years exploring the stunning cruising grounds of Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

In 2018, Loose Cannons underwent a comprehensive refit, including a stunning new Awlgrip paint job, full electrical system upgrades (including a new LifePO4 battery bank and Victron Energy inverter) and a complete overhaul of the plumbing and interior. The new solar panels and solar management system ensure maximum energy efficiency, while the entire upholstery was replaced for added comfort.

The yacht’s rigging, navigation equipment and sails were also replaced as part of the refit, with a total investment of over USD $200,000 since 2018.

Loose Cannons is powered by two Yanmar 2GM20 engines and SD20 sail drives, each with less than 200 hours since their full rebuild. These engines and drives are known for their reliability, fuel efficiency, and ease of maintenance. The hydraulic steering system ensures effortless control under autopilot or manual operation, even in windy conditions. The yacht also features a complete set of tools, spares, and equipment to ensure easy maintenance on the go.

For safety and peace of mind, she is equipped with Raymarine colour radar overlays on charts, ensuring safe and reliable night navigation. In addition, there is a complete extra set of new Raymarine instruments, including a spare autopilot system. A comprehensive collection of cruising guides and marine reference books, covering a wide range of topics will support your journey wherever you sail.

Her 20kg Rocna anchor, paired with 3/8” chain, has never failed, even in winds up to 50 knots and a Zen 30L/hr 12VDC watermaker ensures a reliable water supply on long passages, consuming minimal energy. For trips ashore there is a 2.75m AB aluminium rib with a reliable 9.8hp Tohatsu engine.

Loose Cannons is ready to sail with no major upcoming expenses or investments required. She comes complete with all tools, spares, galley equipment, linen, games, fishing gear and more.

Loose Cannons has sailed more than 50,000 ocean miles in all conditions, from calm trade winds to F10 storms and has proven herself a safe and reliable world-cruising yacht. Her current owner’s work commitments have limited his ability to use her, so he is reluctantly passing her on to the next fortunate owner.

She’s ready to take on new adventures and provide her next owners with years of safe, comfortable cruising. Contact the Yacht Sales Co. for further information or to arrange an inspection. Visit the website to download the inventory.
