Boreas is an exceptionally light and exciting 2013 Stealth 11.8 performance catamaran, designed by Alan Carwardine and built by Asia Catamarans in Phuket. Weighing just 2.8 tonnes lightship, she combines exhilarating sailing performance with a surprisingly practical cruising layout, making her equally suited to competitive regattas, fast coastal cruising or simply enjoying Thailand’s tropical waters. Her design has a proven racing pedigree, with Stealth catamarans achieving considerable success throughout the Asian regatta scene.

Construction is lightweight but exceptionally strong, using vacuum-bagged foam/epoxy composite with carbon fibre reinforcement in high-stress areas. A prepreg carbon rotating mast, carbon boom, retractable carbon bowsprit, daggerboards and retractable rudders further underline her performance-focused design. Her shallow-water capability also makes her particularly attractive for exploring remote anchorages and islands.

Importantly, Boreas underwent an extensive rebuild, refit and modernisation between 2023 and 2025, bringing many aspects of the yacht in line with more recent Stealth designs. Work included a full respray, rewiring, new navigation equipment, new electrical systems, updated interior flooring and hatches, plus significant rigging and sail upgrades.

Her sail wardrobe is particularly impressive. Dyneema standing rigging and running backstays were renewed in 2025, along with new halyards and sheets. Sail inventory includes cruising and racing mainsails and jibs, multiple Doyle asymmetric spinnakers and an unused 2026 Doyle racing asymmetric, providing an excellent selection for both competitive sailing and fast cruising.

Power is supplied by twin 2022 Tohatsu 20hp four-stroke outboards, each showing approximately 250 hours. The engines retract into the hulls when sailing to minimise drag, while under power she cruises at approximately 7 knots and can reach around 10 knots. Under sail, the inventory records speeds of approximately 22 knots, highlighting the genuine performance potential of this lightweight design.

Electronics were substantially upgraded in 2025 and include twin Raymarine Axiom 9 chartplotters, Raymarine autopilot, wind instruments, depth, GPS and VHF. Her electrical system was also renewed in 2025 with LiFePO4 house batteries, a Victron Phoenix inverter and 800W of walk-on/flexible solar panels, providing a practical setup for independent cruising.

Despite her performance credentials, Boreas remains surprisingly comfortable aboard. Accommodation provides six berths, including two double berths, additional forward berths and a convertible saloon arrangement. The saloon features a practical galley with dual fridge/freezers, while two electric heads, shower facilities and generous storage provide useful cruising functionality. Large forward opening windows maximise natural ventilation.

The expansive aft cockpit is protected by a solid bimini, with the mainsheet track cleverly positioned above to keep the cockpit open and uncluttered. Saloon doors disappear into the roof to create an excellent indoor-outdoor living area, while a retractable carbon swim ladder, 2.7m tender with 9hp outboard and refurbished Lewmar electric windlass complete her cruising equipment.

Currently lying in Krabi, Thailand, Boreas offers a rare combination of extreme light weight, serious multihull performance and practical cruising capability. With her extensive recent refit, carbon rig, updated sail wardrobe and modern electronics, she presents an exciting opportunity for sailors wanting a catamaran capable of delivering genuine thrills without sacrificing the ability to cruise comfortably.
