1993 Oyster 55 | Wigwam of Kent
Wigwam of Kent is a substantial and highly specified 1993 Oyster 55, designed by Holman & Pye and built by Landamores and Oyster Yachts. Built to her owner’s specification for ultra-reliable high-latitude voyaging, she represents a serious bluewater cruising platform with robust construction, a comprehensive equipment inventory, and the timeless offshore pedigree for which Oyster yachts are renowned. The signed inventory records her at 16.85m overall with a 4.81m beam and 23.5-tonne displacement.
Her centre-cockpit configuration provides a secure sailing environment, while accommodation below comprises three cabins with two double and three single berths, two heads with Sealand vacuum-flush toilets, two internal showers plus a transom shower, and a generous 60-litre hot-water system. The practical galley is positioned amidships and includes substantial refrigeration and freezer capacity, Force 10 four-burner cooking with oven and grill, double stainless-steel sinks, and a microwave.
Power is provided by a Perkins 4M90 80hp diesel driving a three-blade MaxProp through a shaft-drive system. The inventory records approximately 1,550 genuine engine hours. Importantly, it also notes that the machinery has not been operated for approximately 10 years, so recommissioning and inspection should be anticipated by her next owner.
Her equipment specification reflects her original long-range cruising purpose. Wigwam of Kent carries a Seafresh 95L/h watermaker, Westerbeke 7.5kW generator, Victron 3000W inverter, LG washer/dryer, and three Cruiseair reverse-cycle air-conditioning units. The generator was recorded as having just 8.3 hours since new in October 2017.
Sailing systems are equally substantial, including a Hood hydraulic Stowaway furling mast, Reckmann hydraulic genoa and staysail furlers, hydraulic Lewmar winches and windlass, plus a comprehensive sail wardrobe. Standing rigging and sails are recorded as dating from 2016, with the genoa and staysail described in the inventory as unused and stored.
Navigation and communications equipment includes Raymarine instrumentation and chartplotters, twin ST7000 autopilots, radar, AIS, Simrad navigation, Icom VHF and SSB, Inmarsat SatC and weatherfax equipment. She also carries substantial ground tackle, an Avon Rover 3.1 tender with Mariner 4hp outboard, a Coltri dive compressor and a 24-foot para-anchor system.
Currently lying on the Gold Coast, Australia, Wigwam of Kent offers an unusual opportunity for a buyer seeking a strongly constructed, highly equipped Oyster 55 with genuine expedition-cruising credentials and considerable potential following recommissioning.
