1994 Hallberg-Rassy 39 | Viking
Viking is a well-maintained 1994 Hallberg-Rassy 39, combining timeless Scandinavian craftsmanship, renowned offshore seaworthiness and an extensive programme of upgrades completed between 2022 and 2025. Designed by celebrated naval architect German Frers and built by Hallberg-Rassy in Sweden, she represents an excellent opportunity for sailors seeking a genuine bluewater cruising yacht with modernised systems and proven pedigree.
At 11.85 metres overall with a substantial 10-tonne displacement, Viking features fibreglass construction, teak decks and a fin keel with rudder on skeg. Her comfortable cruising interior provides two cabins, two double berths, three single berths and 1.98m headroom, together with one electric head, an internal shower and an additional aft-deck shower. Saloon side portholes were replaced in 2023.
Power comes from a Volvo Penta MD22 57hp diesel with conventional shaft drive and a three-blade folding propeller. The inventory records approximately 1,720 engine hours, with the most recent service completed in December 2025. A bow thruster provides valuable assistance when manoeuvring in confined harbours and marinas.
One of Viking’s strongest features is her extensively updated electronics package. Recent equipment includes a 2024 Raymarine Axiom 2 PRO RVM chartplotter, Quantum 2 radar, AIS 700 and RAY53 VHF, while a new Raymarine linear-drive autopilot unit was installed in November 2025. Offshore communications are further supported by an Icom IC-M804 SSB transceiver, P4 Dragon modem and Furuno weather receiver.
Her sailing inventory has also received important recent investment. Standing rigging was replaced in October 2022 and the mainsail in 2023, complemented by a 2020 genoa, 2020 staysail, 2016 Solent and a 93m² asymmetric Code D from 2020. A removable stainless-steel bowsprit and comprehensive Lewmar winch package complete a practical setup for extended offshore cruising.
Cruising independence is supported by 530W of solar generation, comprising two new 150W bifacial panels from 2025 and two 115W flexible panels from 2024, together with a 350W Seatroni wind generator. Four 100Ah AGM house batteries, a Victron 12V/60A charger, Katadyn Power Survivor 40E watermaker and portable 1000W generator further enhance her ability to spend extended periods away from shore. A Webasto diesel heater upgraded in 2022 provides additional comfort in cooler cruising grounds.
Safety and ground tackle are equally well considered, with a six-person Plastimo offshore liferaft, eight self-inflating lifejackets, Ocean Signal EPIRB and SART, plus a 25kg Rocna primary anchor with 100 metres of new 10mm galvanised chain fitted in 2025. A Zodiac 270 roll-up tender with Mercury 2.5hp outboard completes the cruising package.
Currently lying in Brisbane, Australia, with Australian tax paid and antifouling completed in October 2025, Viking combines the enduring appeal of a Hallberg-Rassy with substantial recent investment in the systems that matter most for offshore cruising. She is a compelling choice for sailors looking for a comfortable, capable and comprehensively equipped yacht ready for her next ocean adventure.
