2001 Buizen 40 Pilothouse | Maram

Buizen 40 Pilothouse | Dual Helms | 2023 Rigging & Sails | 3-Cabin Layout | Australian Built

Maram is a beautifully crafted 2001 Buizen 40 Pilothouse, combining traditional Australian yacht-building quality with the comfort, protection and offshore capability sought by serious cruising sailors. Designed by Eddie Buizen and Paul Stanyon and built by Mastercraft Marine, she is hull number nine of just ten produced. Currently lying in Manly, Queensland, Australia, Maram offers an appealing opportunity to acquire a highly regarded Australian cruising yacht with important recent sailing upgrades.

One of Maram’s standout features is her practical pilothouse design with dual helm stations, allowing the yacht to be operated from the sheltered interior or the aft cockpit. Her substantial GRP construction, approximately 9,000kg displacement and cast-iron ballast reflect a design focused on comfortable, reassuring passagemaking. Wide side decks, a spacious cockpit and practical deck arrangements make her equally suited to extended coastal cruising and relaxing at anchor.

Below deck, Maram features a warm, traditional timber interior with three cabins and two bathrooms, offering comfortable accommodation for owners, family and guests. The forward owner’s cabin features an island berth, while two additional guest cabins aft provide flexible sleeping arrangements. A welcoming saloon, generous storage and practical companionway access create an inviting environment for extended time aboard.

Her well-appointed galley includes a four-burner stove, Plastimo oven, front-loading refrigerator and microwave, providing the essentials for comfortable cruising. A separate top-loading freezer is also fitted, although it is currently not operational and requires attention. The spacious interior combines classic craftsmanship with the practical layout expected of a capable long-distance cruising yacht.

Auxiliary propulsion is provided by a Volvo Penta MD22P 60hp turbo diesel engine, with approximately 1,354 hours and servicing recorded in 2025. A Side-Power SP75T bow thruster assists with close-quarters manoeuvring, while the yacht’s dual helm arrangement offers flexibility when navigating in changing weather conditions or confined waterways.

Maram has benefited from significant sailing upgrades, including new stainless steel standing rigging in 2023, together with a new mainsail and genoa in the same year. These improvements represent an important investment in her offshore cruising capability. Her sailing inventory also includes headsail furling and Harken manual winches, providing a straightforward and practical sail-handling arrangement.

Navigation equipment includes a Raymarine Axiom chartplotter, B&G autopilot and instrumentation, JRC radar and GME VHF radio. Her electrical system has also received attention, with six new Trojan house batteries installed in June 2026, supported by AGM batteries and a Heart Interface inverter/charger. Generous tankage of 600 litres of freshwater and 400 litres of fuel adds practicality for longer passages and extended cruising.

Additional cruising equipment includes a Muir electric anchor windlass with 60 metres of 10mm chain, davits and a boarding platform. New antifouling is scheduled for November 2026, while the broker notes that Maram would benefit from some cosmetic freshening. Maintenance invoices are available, providing prospective buyers with further information about her upkeep and recent improvements.

With her limited-production heritage, protected pilothouse, comfortable three-cabin accommodation and substantial 2023 rigging and sail upgrades, Maram presents an attractive opportunity for sailors seeking a traditional Australian cruising yacht with genuine offshore potential.
