2003 Custom Sloop 58 | El Toro

El Toro is a unique 58ft custom bluewater sailing yacht, purpose-built in Greece in 2003 for serious offshore passagemaking and extensively refitted during 2024–2025. With only one example ever launched, she combines substantial construction, a 27-tonne displacement and a deep fin keel with bulb and winglet to create a capable platform for long-distance cruising and liveaboard adventures.

A major professional refit has addressed many of the key systems aboard, significantly reducing the work normally associated with acquiring a yacht of this size and age. Upgrades include a complete new rig in 2025, upgraded hydraulic steering, new aluminium fuel tanks, modernised electrical systems, and a full repaint of the hull and deck.

Power comes from a Yanmar 4LV170 170hp diesel, installed in 2023 and serviced in 2025, driving a 40mm shaft with a four-blade MaxProp. A Vetus bow thruster installed in 2023 and upgraded Hydrive hydraulic steering from 2025 further enhance manoeuvrability. With 1,000 litres of fuel and 1,000 litres of freshwater, El Toro is well prepared for extended periods away from shore.

Off-grid capability is a particular strength. Her energy system includes an impressive 1,410W solar array, dual Silentwind wind generators, lithium and GEL house battery banks, Victron charging equipment, 2500W inverter capacity and a Paguro 6500 generator. A 150L/h Aquatech watermaker provides additional independence when cruising remotely. The original introduction specifically highlights her energy autonomy as a major element of her liveaboard and long-range cruising capability.

Her sailing inventory is equally comprehensive, with new stainless-steel standing rigging from 2025, three mainsails, a 66m² headsail and a substantial 207m² Parasailor. Sail handling is supported by Facnor and Admiral furlers, two electric Harken winches, two manual Harken winches and two additional Barlow winches.

Below deck, El Toro offers impressive accommodation for extended cruising, with five cabins, three double berths, two single berths and four heads with four showers. The saloon galley includes separate refrigeration and freezer capacity, gas cooking and updated stainless-steel fittings, while a 7kg washing machine and mobile air-conditioning unit add further practicality for long-term living aboard.

Her navigation and communications package includes Garmin chartplotters, radar, Reactor autopilot, AIS, VHF and wind instrumentation, complemented by Iridium GO and Icom 802 SSB for offshore communications. Ground tackle is equally serious, with a 40kg Lewmar Epsilon primary anchor, 120m of 13mm galvanised chain, and a Lofrans Falkon 1700W windlass.

Currently lying at Vuda Marina, Fiji, El Toro presents a rare opportunity for an experienced sailor seeking an individual, comprehensively refitted bluewater yacht already equipped for extended offshore cruising. Her combination of strength, tankage, renewable energy, accommodation and recent upgrades makes her particularly suited to serious passagemaking and long-term liveaboard use.
